Aspen Dental Care harnesses the power of dental-grade soft and hard tissue lasers for treatments that are faster, more comfortable, and remarkably precise. In many cases — no scalpel, no sutures, no extended healing.
The Technology
Dental lasers emit a focused beam of light energy at a specific wavelength, which is absorbed by the target tissue — whether it's water within soft tissue, hydroxyapatite in enamel, or bacterial cell walls in infected areas. The laser energy causes controlled photovaporisation of the target while leaving adjacent healthy tissue unaffected.
At Aspen Dental Care, we use multiple laser wavelengths chosen specifically for the tissue type being treated — from gentle diode lasers for soft tissue contouring to powerful Er:YAG lasers for cavity preparation. This allows us to treat more conditions more comfortably, with fewer needles and faster recovery.
Our Laser Systems
Different dental tissues require different laser wavelengths. We have the right laser for every treatment — not a one-size-fits-all approach.
The soft-tissue workhorse of modern dentistry. Absorbed selectively by melanin and haemoglobin in gum tissue, the diode laser cuts, coagulates, and sterilises simultaneously — with minimal bleeding and no sutures required in many procedures.
The most water-absorbed dental laser in existence. The Er:YAG (Erbium: Yttrium Aluminium Garnet) laser interacts powerfully with the water content in enamel and dentine — enabling cavity preparation, caries removal, and bone recontouring with extraordinary precision and minimal heat generation.
Penetrates deeply into periodontal pockets and infected tissue, targeting pigmented bacteria while coagulating blood vessels. Particularly effective in the treatment of advanced gum disease, periapical lesions, and infected root canals — reaching anatomy inaccessible by conventional instruments.
Your Visit
From consultation to comfortable recovery — here is what to expect at a laser dentistry appointment at Aspen Dental Care.
Laser Applications
From everyday gum treatments to complex surgical procedures — lasers improve outcomes across the full spectrum of dental care at Aspen.
Advanced gum disease destroys the bone and tissue anchoring your teeth. Laser periodontal therapy (LANAP protocol) uses the Nd:YAG laser to target and eliminate diseased tissue and bacteria within periodontal pockets — without cutting healthy gum or placing sutures. Bone regeneration is stimulated simultaneously.
A "gummy smile" or uneven gumline is instantly corrected with the diode laser. The gum margin is sculpted with sub-millimetre precision, tissue seals on contact, and patients leave with a beautifully proportioned smile — often without a single stitch.
Tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) and lip-tie are safely and painlessly released with the diode laser in minutes. Ideal for newborns experiencing breastfeeding difficulties, toddlers with speech issues, and adults. The procedure is bloodless, requires no sutures, and healing is essentially immediate.
The Er:YAG laser removes decayed tooth structure without the vibration, heat, or sound of the dental drill. For many small to medium cavities, anaesthesia is not required. The laser also disinfects the prepared cavity before the filling is placed — reducing the risk of future recurrence.
The Nd:YAG laser is introduced into the root canal after conventional cleaning to eliminate bacteria in dentinal tubules, accessory canals, and anatomical fins that irrigation solutions alone cannot reach. The result is a more thoroughly disinfected canal — dramatically improving long-term success rates.
Diode laser energy activates the hydrogen peroxide whitening gel, dramatically accelerating the bleaching reaction. The result is a significantly whiter smile achieved in a single appointment — with more consistent results than tray-based or light-activated systems alone.
A single low-level laser therapy (LLLT) session dramatically reduces the pain of mouth ulcers and cold sores within minutes. The laser bio-stimulates tissue repair and inhibits the viral replication causing recurrent cold sores — shortening episodes and reducing recurrence frequency significantly.
Lasers are used to create precise incisions for implant placement, expose submerged implants at the second stage of surgery, and manage peri-implant soft tissue architecture — all without scalpels or sutures. Laser bio-stimulation also accelerates osseointegration around the implant.
When insufficient tooth structure is exposed above the gumline to place a crown, laser crown lengthening reshapes the gum and sometimes underlying bone to reveal more tooth — enabling a secure crown placement. With the laser, this is a far less invasive and more comfortable procedure than conventional surgery.
Side-by-Side
The difference laser technology makes is measurable in every dimension — comfort, recovery, accuracy, and outcomes.
| Factor | Traditional Method | Laser Treatment at Aspen |
|---|---|---|
| Anaesthesia Requirement | Usually required (soft & hard tissue) | Often not needed for soft tissue 💉✗ |
| Scalpel / Drill Use | Scalpel for gum, drill for cavity | Replaced by focused light energy 🔆 |
| Bleeding During Procedure | Moderate (scalpel cuts vessels) | Minimal — laser seals vessels on contact |
| Sutures Required | Yes, for most gum procedures | No sutures in most soft tissue cases ✓ |
| Post-op Pain Level | Moderate to significant | Mild — LLLT reduces inflammation actively |
| Bacterial Disinfection | Chemical irrigation only | 99.9% kill rate — including dentinal tubules |
| Tissue Healing Time | 7–14 days typical | 2–5 days (2–3× faster) 🌱 |
| Infection Risk | Standard post-surgical risk | Significantly reduced — laser sterilises as it works |
| Precision | Instrument-dependent | Sub-millimetre optical precision |
| Patient Comfort Rating | Moderate | High — reported as significantly more comfortable |
Patient Benefits
Laser energy photovaporises tissue instantly with minimal mechanical trauma. Nerve endings are not dragged or compressed as with conventional instruments — resulting in significantly less intra- and post-operative discomfort.
The laser simultaneously coagulates blood vessels as it cuts. The result is a near-bloodless surgical field — improving visibility for the dentist and reducing post-operative oozing and swelling for the patient.
Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) stimulates cellular energy production (ATP synthesis), accelerating mitosis and collagen production. Tissue heals 2–3× faster than after conventional surgery — often with barely visible evidence of treatment within days.
Lasers achieve 99.9% bacterial kill rates — including antibiotic-resistant strains and bacteria hidden inside dentinal tubules. This is particularly transformative for root canal therapy and periodontal treatment outcomes.
A laser beam can be focused to a spot as small as 0.1 mm, enabling tissue modification at a cellular level. Healthy adjacent tissue remains completely undisturbed — true minimally invasive dentistry at its finest.
Most laser procedures allow patients to return to work, social activities, and normal diet on the same day or the following day. No extended recovery, no post-surgical restrictions, and no need to take days off for dental treatment.
Your Protection
Dental lasers are classified medical devices subject to strict regulatory standards. At Aspen, your safety is engineered into every step of every laser procedure.
Every patient and team member in the laser treatment room wears wavelength-specific optical-density goggles calibrated to block the exact wavelength being used. Standard sunglasses are insufficient — we use certified laser safety eyewear only.
All laser procedures at Aspen Dental Care are performed exclusively by dentists certified in dental laser use. Our team is trained in laser physics, tissue interaction, safety protocols, and clinical applications — not just basic operation.
Laser procedures are conducted in designated rooms with proper laser hazard signage, beam-stop surfaces, and controlled access during active lasing. The treatment environment meets all BIS / IEC 60825 medical laser safety standards.
Our Er:YAG hard tissue laser operates with water spray to prevent thermal buildup in enamel and dentine. Treatment parameters (pulse duration, energy density, repetition rate) are set conservatively for each tissue type and adjusted in real time.
Certain medications (photosensitisers) and conditions (active cancer treatment, uncontrolled diabetes) require adjusted laser parameters or alternative treatment selection. We review your complete health history before every laser appointment.
Laser tissue interaction produces a plume (surgical smoke) containing vaporised cellular material. We use a dedicated high-volume laser-specific evacuation system — far beyond standard dental suction — to protect both patients and the clinical team.
Why Aspen Dental Care
Having a laser is one thing. Having the training, protocols, and multi-wavelength capability to use it exceptionally is another.
Patient Journey
Laser dentistry eliminates much of the anxiety, discomfort, and recovery time traditionally associated with dental procedures. Here is a realistic picture of what your experience will be.
No special preparation is usually needed. Let us know all medications you are taking. Eat normally unless advised otherwise. Arrive with any previous dental X-rays.
You'll wear protective goggles. Most patients describe the sensation as warmth or light pressure — very different from a drill. Many feel remarkably calm once they realise there is no vibration or loud noise.
Soft tissue procedures typically allow same-day or next-day return to normal activities. Mild tenderness if any is managed with over-the-counter analgesics. Most patients are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable recovery is.
From walking in to full recovery.
